Admissions to Stockport Local Education Authority schools are based on priority areas. Stockport LEA decides which students will be given a place at the school, both at the normal point of entry and as mid-year transfers.

The Kingsway School does not decide which students will be given a place at the school. If you wish to discuss individual circumstances you may contact the school, but we are unable to process individual applications.

We admit students in Years 7-11, in the age range 11-16 and our admission limit is 270 students per year.

Most of our students come from Gatley, Cheadle and Heald Green. Some come from different parts of Stockport, South Manchester and Cheshire and further afield.

Admission Appeals Timings

How to appeal
All applicants refused a place have a right of appeal to an independent appeal panel constituted and operated in accordance with the School Admission Appeals Code. The independent panel will review your application and make a final, legally binding, decision on the matter. If you're unhappy with the school your child was offered and would like to appeal, you can do so using the online form on the Stockport LA website, here.

Timings of your appeal
If you are appealing before your child is due to start secondary school, it is important that you register your appeal AS SOON AS POSSIBLE to ensure that a decision is made well before the start of the new school year in September.
The Council publishes a deadline each year, details of which can be found in the booklet ‘Secondary Education in Stockport’ produced by the Corporate Director for People or on the Council website.
Completed appeal forms should be returned within 20 school days of the refusal letter from the Corporate Director for People.

Acknowledgement of receipt of your appeal form
Once you've submitted your appeal form, you should receive an acknowledgement from Stockport LA within 5 working days. If you've not heard from them within this time, please call 0161 474 3216 to make sure they have received your appeal form.

Invitation to the appeal hearing
You'll receive at least 10 school days' notice of the date of your appeal. You'll also receive a copy of the Admission Authorities case outlining their reasons for refusal and any other information. You'll receive this before your appeal by email.

For appeals for Year 7 places for a September start that were received on time, appeals must be heard within 40 school days of the deadline for lodging appeals. The deadline is published each year on the Stockport website.

For appeals for Year 7 places for a September start that were received after the deadline, appeals should be heard within 40 school days from the deadline for lodging appeals where possible, or within 30 school days of the appeal being lodged. The deadline is published each year on the Stockport website.

For in-year appeals, the appeal must be heard within 30 school days of you submitting an appeal form.

Before the Hearing
You'll receive the Local Authorities Statement of Case, also known as an appeal pack, around 7 days before your appeal hearing date. You'll receive this in a password-protected document in an email. It will outline the situation at the school and the reasons why you have been refused a place.

Please note: if you wish to submit more information to support your appeal then you may do so up to 2 days before the date of appeal.

Stockport LA will also contact you by phone within one or 2 days of your appeal hearing date to confirm that:

  • you've received your appeal pack
  • you'll be attending your appeal hearing

Appeal Decision
The decision of the appeals panel will be communicated to you in writing and sent within 7 calendar days (approximately 5 school days) of the conclusion of the appeal hearing for that school.

Withdrawing your appeal
If you want to withdraw your appeal, you'll need to inform us in writing. Email admission.appeals@stockport.gov.uk
