Mainstream SEND Support Interventions

 

Read, Write, Fresh Start
Duration: 12-18 months, Frequency: three times weekly

Read Write Inc. Fresh Start is a targeted literacy intervention designed to support older primary and secondary pupils who need additional help with reading and writing. Using a structured, phonics-based approach, the programme builds essential decoding and comprehension skills while developing confidence and fluency. Through engaging texts, guided practice, and small-group teaching, Fresh Start helps students close learning gaps and make rapid progress.


Lexonic Reading Intervention
Duration: 6 weeks, Frequency: 1 hour session weekly

Lexonik is a highly effective literacy programme designed to accelerate reading, spelling and vocabulary development for students of all abilities. Through structured, fast-paced sessions, Lexonik teaches learners to break down and understand word structures, enabling them to decode unfamiliar vocabulary with confidence. The intervention strengthens phonological awareness, improves comprehension, and boosts overall literacy attainment. By equipping students with practical, transferable strategies, Lexonik empowers them to become more independent, fluent readers across all curriculum areas.


Lexia Reading Intervention
Duration: 6 weeks, Frequency: 1 hour session weekly

Lexia is a personalised, computer-based reading intervention designed to strengthen core literacy skills. Through adaptive activities, the programme supports students in developing phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension at their own pace. Lexia provides targeted practice, immediate feedback, and clear progress tracking, enabling staff to offer focused support where it’s needed most. The intervention builds confidence, independence and reading proficiency across the curriculum.


ELSA - Emotional Literacy Support Intervention
Duration: 6 weeks, Frequency: 1 hour session weekly

Supports the children and young person’s emotional development and helps them cope with life’s challenges. ELSAs will also help children and young people to find solutions to problems they might have.


EBSA - Emotionally Based School Avoidance Intervention
Duration: 6-8 weeks, Frequency: 1 hour sessions weekly

Our EBSA (Emotionally Based School Avoidance) intervention supports students who experience anxiety or emotional barriers to attending school. Through weekly small-group and individual sessions, students receive guidance, strategies for managing stress, and a safe space to rebuild confidence and engagement with learning.


Zones of Regulation (a visual system used to control emotion driven behaviours)
Duration: 6-18 Lessons, in group of 4-6

A complete social-emotional learning curriculum, created to teach children self-regulation and emotional control. 


EAL - Additional English
Frequency: once a week after school for 1 hour,  1 KS3 Group and 1 KS4 group.

Our EAL intervention provides targeted language support to help students develop vocabulary, communication and literacy skills. We run one KS3 group and one KS4 group each week, offering structured practice to build confidence and improve access to the wider curriculum.


Write from the Start (Handwriting)
Duration: 6 weeks, Year 7 ONLY

Offers a radically different and effective approach that will guide children through the various stages of perceptual and fine motor development to lay the foundations for flowing, accurate handwriting.


Lego intervention
Duration: 6 weeks, Frequency, 1 hour sessions weekly

An intervention designed to support social development in individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) through collaborative play. The intended outcomes of Lego therapy include improved social skills, such as communication, cooperation, and problem-solving. By working together to build Lego structures, participants learn to take turns, share, and negotiate roles and responsibilities. This therapy also aims to enhance peer interaction, increase engagement in group activities, and build friendships in a structured and supportive environment. Ultimately, Lego therapy seeks to foster social competence, boost confidence, and promote positive social experiences.
